There is something wrong with you. So, Verne Gay of Newsday, you should probably get that checked out.
The Cherokee ad also made his Worst 5.
Audi's stupid one for the A3 was in his Best 5.

"No one"? $67k is definitely 'move over, poor person' territory, but there's a market full of similarly priced cars. He must be one of those morons who thinks as if everyone else is just a replicant of his thoughts and feelings. He doesn't like it/want it, so it's either impossible, or incomprehensible for anyone else to.

Wat... I didn't even see the ads and I am left scratching my head.

Isn't the Cherokee ad the one with the "Built Free" tagline? If so, I can kind of understand his point on that one. It might be a good, uplifting message, but it's not what one should use to market a car.

I agree. In the market of 'move over, poor person' cars, this is what the poor person would be driving while getting angrily tailgated by your choice of a 7-series, A8 or S-Class. It's a damn nice deal for anyone who wants a Maserati.

No worse than a confusing Matrix ad for Kia (another $60k+ car) or Jag's British Villains(more expensive cars). Honda's Bruce Willis commercial was stupid as hell.

I would buy one if I had the money, that's for sure.

I'll have to check those out sometime, as they don't air in Brazil. Not that our ads are any better haha...

That's what happens when you enter a thread about car ads, without having seen a single one. Scratching your head is the least that you can do.

A car no one can afford?
Did they look up the Ghibli? It starts at $67,000. Cheap? No, but certainly affordable for a great many people.

This guy is obviously a jaded hack who hates all of those "car people" that drive the loud, fast, dangerous "machines". We should all be happy driving our Camrys and the only time car companies should make commercials is if they have something funny to say!

I'd like to flog the hell out of one. Not sure if I'd buy it but not saying I wouldn't either. The commercial was stupid as hell though.
But the Audi ad was brilliantly funny.

Newsday....A rag for the one of the most expensive parts of the United States.....

What's with all this rich person hate? I mean sure I can't afford it but that's not the car's or commercial's though. Maybe it's a reflection of our current administration. It's an aspirational car. You aspire to own it. Would you really want this to be Stalinist russia where the only real car you could get is a lada? Or maybe North Korea where no one but the government has personal mobility outside a bike? This dude can go fuck himself. Okay rage over.

I think the bigger issue is they spent $133,000 per second for superbowl airtime. Thats a comfortable upper-middle class salary spent every second.
![]() 02/03/2014 at 19:58 |

True but isn't that the same rate with every super bowl ad? It just seemed like this guy went after Maserati because he's a jealous cockhead.

honestly, i think half the reason people are upset is they didn't understand the commercial, which made them feel dumb, and then they saw it was for Maserati which made them feel poor and so they took it way more personally than they should have. It would have done wonders if they had just out the price at the end because everybody would have said "Wow!, thats less than I thought!"

Yea that would have been a better marketing move for Maserati's sake. Just scanned some Youtube comments saying the same thing. But how could you not want that thing if you're in the market? Its sexier than a 5-series, E-Class, or an A6. Not to mention dat exhaust note.

I love how everyone acts like only poor, beer loving rednecks (i.e. Packer fans) watch the Super Bowl.
Le duh, people who can afford $70k cars like sports too.
And actual BEER.

Bottom 5 for what exactly? Last I checked an ad is supposed to sell something by grabbing your attention. If anything that Maserati commercial grabbed a lot of people's attention, Ghibli was a top search for a while. Also a sub $70k no one can afford? What is he thinking..

Are they really reviewing (superbowl) ads in a newspaper!? Why?
